Biography

Mary Lou Stanton studied piano for 12 years in Ottawa with Gladys Boyd, a charter member of ORMTA. After obtaining her solo Performer’s and Teacher’s ARCT while in high school, she worked in Toronto as a ballet pianist and studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music with Boris Roubakine. She later studied with Agnes Butcher (a pupil of Bela Bartok) and with Irene McLellan. Mary Lou has performed with the York Symphony Orchestra and in several solo recitals, as well as many ORMTA Teachers’ Recitals. She has been a member of ORMTA for over 35 years .

Mary Lou has been teaching piano privately in Newmarket for 40 years, She was a founding member of Visual and Performing Arts Newmarket, (VPAN) which presents an annual three-concert series at Newmarket Theatre. She enjoys teaching students of all ages.
